What this site puts on your device.

The short version

This site runs no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Nothing that measures you loads until you accept it. If you decline, the site works exactly the same — you simply appear in fewer of our numbers.

What we store without asking

One item, and it is not a cookie. When you choose Accept or Decline on the banner, we record that choice in your browser's local storage under the key valuearc-cookie-consent. It never leaves your device, and it exists so we do not ask you the same question on every page. Clearing your browser's site data for this domain removes it and the banner returns.

Our host also sets short-lived technical data needed to serve and secure the site — routing, load balancing and abuse protection. This is not used to profile you and cannot be switched off without breaking the site.

What loads only with consent

Google Analytics 4, and only after you press Accept. It sets first-party cookies — typically _ga and a property-specific _ga_* pair — that distinguish one browser from another so we can count visitors rather than page loads. They last up to two years unless you clear them.

We use it to see which pages earn their place, which referrers send real readers and where the site is slow. We have not enabled Google Signals, advertising features or remarketing, and we do not upload personal identifiers to it.

Aggregate performance measurement

Our host, Vercel, records aggregate page-view and web-vitals data for the site. It is cookieless and is not used to build a profile of an individual visitor, which is why it is not gated behind the banner. It tells us load times and error rates, not who you are.

Changing your mind

Clear this site's stored data in your browser and the banner will ask again on your next visit. You can also block or delete cookies for this domain in your browser settings, or use its Do Not Track or equivalent privacy controls. Blocking cookies here will not degrade the site.

Third-party pages

Links from this site to other services — a client's system, a social profile, a documentation host — take you to sites with their own cookie practices. Check their notices; we cannot set or clear cookies on their behalf.

If we add anything that stores or reads data on your device, we will list it here and, where consent is required, put it behind the banner before it loads.
